Factors affecting the implementation of patient safety management by nursing students

Abstract
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to investigate the level of knowledge, awareness, and implementation of nursing students in identify the factors affecting the patient safety management.

Methods: A descriptive survey design was used. The study participants were 498 nursing students from four colleges located in G Metropolitan City and C Provinces. Data were collected from June to October in 2015. The data were analyzed with SPSS 18.0 computer program including descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression.

Results: The study revealed that there was a significant correlation between their awareness, knowledge, and implementation regarding the patient safety management. The results of multiple regression analysis conducted evaluating the factors affecting implementation of patient safety management confirmed that the awareness and knowledge regarding patient¡¯s safety as being important estimate variables.

Conclusions: These findings indicate that patient safety education should be provided to improve nursing students clinical practices.
